Mbappé, the Great Absentee of the Olympic Games

The new Real Madrid superstar is among the many high-profile players who will not be participating in the Soccer tournament at 2024 Paris Olympics. However, because France is the host nation, there had been speculation about his presence in Les Bleus.

France boasts numerous stars like Antoine Griezmann, N'Golo Kanté, Kingsley Coman, and, of course, Kylian Mbappé, the leading French figure. Thierry Henry, the coach of the French Olympic team, called up Alexandre Lacazette, Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Loïc Badé as the players over 23 years old. None of the French stars, many of whom were World Cup champions in 2018, attended the Olympic event.

Now, let's review the main reason for Mbappé's absence from the French roster.

Why isn't Mbappé playing for France in the Olympic Games?

Although Mbappé had suggested that he wanted to participate to win the gold medal in his country with the French national team, the main reason for his absence from the roster is related to his transfer to Real Madrid. "Kiki" arrived as a star signing for the Spanish club right after the 2024 Euro Cup ended. It was reported that the management of the capital club advised him not to compete with France to focus on getting ready for the new season with the Merengues.

What Injury Did Mbappé Suffer in the Euro Cup?

Kylian Mbappé had to withdraw from the match against Austria in the 2024 Euro Cup. The French forward suffered a blow to his nose that forced him to leave the field. The injury turned out to be a mild nasal septum fracture without displacement, but the former PSG player played most of the European tournament with a mask. His recovery does not require surgery.

Despite this obvious injury, Mbappé stated that he needs to get physically fit as he did not show his best form in the Euro Cup and felt uncomfortable.
